Activities: The Centre is particularly involved in efforts to integrate the children into mainstream school and to raise public awareness of visual impairment. The CCBR's objectives are to seek the fullest integration of blind people in society; to promote amongst sighted community a more realistic understanding to the problems facing blind people and their capacity to them; to provide opportunities for parents to share experience; to form links with the medical profession, social services, education advisory bodies and others concerned with blindness; to encourage the training of teachers and others concerned with visually impaired people. CCBR offers Pre-school intervention with visually disabled children; integrated educational programmes; Braille transcription; library; daily living and mobility training; craft skills using small items e.g. knitting and grass mats; child to child and children's rights programme; recreation and sports; music children's choir; parents for parents groups; comprehensive community based rehabilitation (CCBR) in 55 constituencies where the blind are identified assessed and referred for ophthalmological assessment and refraction, vocational training and self employment; primary eye care programme including the distribution of low cost spectacles and cataract operations.
